  2. The bottom one of Ursula is very interesting, hadn't seen that one before, is it verified as Keane? Certainly looks like his style.

The one at the bottom of the page(with the early design of Ursula) is more likely by Dan Haskett than Glen. I'm not 100% on that , but it looks more like Dan's Ariel than Glen's .

Also , Ariel with the fork and brushing her hair with the fork look more like Mark Henn's Ariels. Mark Henn and Glen Keane were both supervisors on Ariel. I believe the thumbnails of Ariel kissing Sebastian, Ariel at the table with Sebastian hiding under the food platter, and Ariel shrugging her shoulders (from "Kiss the Girl") are also Mark Henn's , though possibly Tony Fucile, who I recall did a lot of the shots of Ariel in "Kiss the Girl" , but I'd have to see a copy of the draft to confirm that .

As a big fan of Glen's work at Disney, Aladdin is my favorite movie and high on my favorite Disney character list I drooled on these drawings.
It's so great you get hold on all those drawings that never reach dvd.

Now I'm going to explore the art of glen keane some more

  5. The last picture is one of Glen Keane's. When I went to Disneyland yesterday (in California), there is a special Animation building with a lot of Disney's animator's concepts and stuff, and that exact picture was in there, with Glen Keane's name under it. =)

  6. Glen,
My name is Drew and I was housed by your family at ASP. I played volleyball against your son. I was wondering how you are doing these days. Hope all is well with your family.

  7. Aloha Glen! I just want to thank you for being so inspiring. After seeing the Little Mirmaid in 1988 as an 8 year-old girl I knew for sure deep down that I wanted to animate. I fell in love with Ariel - being a red head myself I loved that character style choice. I watched the movie over and over picking it apart in my youth and thinking about how it was made. I ended up bieng a graphic designer over the last 7 years but only recently have I realized that animation is my true path as an artist. I'm now back in school returning to fullfill the dreams of my 8-year-old self. Mahalo for creating such an inspiring character!

  10. that third-to-last-picture - the one of Ariel - does not look very Glen Keane. A little Mark Henn, maybe.
